Getting Started with Bill Payments
How paying a bill on Smile Mall works — from choosing a biller to getting your token or receipt.
What you can pay
Smile Mall lets you pay a range of Zimbabwean billers: ZESA and ZETDC electricity, DSTV, funeral policies from Doves, Nyaradzo and FML, school and tertiary fees, ZINWA and City of Harare prepaid water, and Econet and NetOne airtime and bundles. You can pay on the services website, in the app, or through the WhatsApp bot.
How a bill payment works
A bill payment has two distinct steps that are worth understanding: validation (confirming who an account belongs to) and delivery (posting your payment to the biller and getting back a token or receipt). You enter your account, confirm the details, pay, and then receive your token or receipt.
Validation and delivery
Account validation (first)
You type your account or meter number and Smile Mall asks ZB's gateway who it belongs to. A valid ZESA meter returns the customer's name and address; a Doves policy returns the holder and amount due.
Delivery (last)
After you pay, your payment is posted to the biller and the token or receipt comes back. This is what actually gives you your ZESA token or your paid receipt.
Self-service status and receipts
After a payment completes you can check its status yourself and download a branded PDF proof of payment on the services site. The proof is also emailed to you. See Status Check & PDF Proof of Payment.
